About me
I'm Zalma Colmenares—a Product Designer and Marketing & Communications creative based in Madrid, Spain, though my heart carries pieces of everywhere I've been.
I was born and raised in Colombia, where my curiosity first took root. Since very young, I've been drawn to stories—writing them, filming them, sharing them. Social media fascinated me as a new kind of cultural conversation. Films moved me. Languages and cultures made me wonder: how do people love, struggle, and connect around the world?
That curiosity led me to Spain in 2017 to study communications. But I didn't stop there. I spent time studying in The Netherlands and New York City, and each place reshaped me a little. They gave me more questions than answers—and that's exactly what I wanted. Today, I carry those perspectives into every project: a richer understanding of how people communicate, what they value, and what makes them feel seen.

Social Media & Content Manager
Smiler
In Smiler I was part of an incredible marketing and communications team at a Dutch start-up in the travel & tourism sector, where we promoted an app for photographers. I learned so much about business and marketing while working alongside people who truly knew their craft.
My main responsibilities were social media management and brand presence, but the most valuable part was seeing firsthand how every post, every reply, and every piece of content I created directly impacted revenue and helped the company grow.
It wasn't just "creating content"—it was understanding the business from the inside, learning the travel & tourism industry, and contributing to real results.
Marketing & Communications Officer
TMC
During my time at TMC, I was the sole marketing and communications responsible for the entire Madrid office. That meant a lot of freedom, but also a lot of responsibility. It was the company's first investment in this type of role, so I had to prove through results that communications wasn't just a "nice to have," but a strategic driver for the business.
Working directly under the director and CEO, my proactivity and reliability were essential. I built systems from scratch, brought forward unique proposals, and collaborated closely with business, talent, and office management teams. Every campaign, every piece of content, every internal communication had to earn its place—and show impact.
This experience immersed me in the tech consulting industry and taught me how to communicate complex value in a fast-paced environment. I didn't just execute—I built, advocated, and delivered.
Communication & UX/UI Design Specialist
Airbus
At Airbus, I held a hybrid role that combined internal communications with UX design from day one. I was embedded in a software development project where I created communications and materials for users while simultaneously applying my UX design skills to shape the products themselves.
I collaborated daily with developers, project owners, and business leaders—acting as a bridge between technical teams and end users. I designed prototypes in Figma, created visual and functional documentation, and ensured that every communication and every interface prioritized clarity and user needs.
This role taught me that great communication and great design are require understanding people and delivering what they actually need. his is where I learned to design interfaces through the lens of branding, marketing, and communication—creating experiences that don't just function, but connect.
What I bring to your team
I'm someone who believes there's always more to learn. I don't like standing still. Whether I'm diving into a new design tool, exploring generative AI, or simply observing how people interact with the world around them, I'm constantly growing—because excellence isn't a destination, it's a practice. I show up every day curious, self-motivated, and ready to do the work.
With over three years of experience in the technology sector, I bridge the gap between design and communication. I've worked as a social media manager, marketing and communications officer, and now product designer. That mix taught me that the best design happens when brand strategy meets user needs, when visuals carry meaning, when communication and product work as one.
I thrive in diverse, international teams. My time living and studying across Colombia, Spain, the Netherlands, and New York has strengthened my ability to collaborate in multicultural teams and communicate clearly across contexts. I know how to listen, how to bridge perspectives, and how to bring clarity to complexity.
I aim to partner with companies, brands, and individuals who want to make an impact. Whether through thoughtful product design or creative strategy, I help translate complex ideas into messages that resonate—and experiences that bring value to people's lives.
